Job summary:
The Laboratório Associado at Oeiras (LAO), comprising Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB), a research and post-graduation institute from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (IBET), a private non-profit biotechnology research organisation, and Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), a private non-profit institute, wishes to appoint up to 14 research scientists at the Auxiliary Investigator level.
Job description:
The LAO focuses its research efforts on a number of themes relevant to the study of human disease, the improvement of the quality of life and the environment, and basic research in life sciences, chemistry, and related technologies. The five major themes of research are: (1) biologically active molecules, (2) medicine and molecular veterinary studies, (3) developmental biology in animals and plants, (4) biological risk, and (5) improvement of plants and forests. This diversity of expertise contributes to the multidisciplinary atmosphere that makes the LAO unique in Portugal.
Financed by the Portuguese government iniciative for research positions, Ciência 2008, the LAO is seeking up to 14 highly motivated PhDs. The successful scientists will be expected to undertake original research and will also be encouraged to collaborate with the existing research initiatives within the LAO.
The salary will be in the range 3.100 Euros/month × 14 months/year. The appointments are based on one-year contract, renewable up to 5 years, in accordance to the rules of the Ciência 2008 programme.
Please note that the final appointment of these positions depends on the approval by "Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia" of the pre-selected candidates proposed by the LAO.
Qualifications and experience
The candidates must hold a PhD and have a minimum of three years of scientific post-doctoral experience. Candidates should have a proven track record of publications and ability to pursue a research career. Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with national/international teams are essential.
